1 Agave Fibre
A fibre obtained from the leaf of the Agave Americana. White to pale yellow in colour, short in length, hard in feel, is very strong, has much elasticity and is wavy. Used in the manufacture of a lace for decorative uses and for cordage. It is chiefly found in Mexico and Central and South America. The plant gives leaves 8-ft. to 10-ft. long and 1-ft. wide and yields 6 to 10 per cent of fibre. They are called "century plants" because it was thought they flowered once only in 100 years but it is known that the flowering depends upon its cultivation methods. Also known as American Aloe. -

4 Agave Saxi
A variety of Pita fibre also known as Henequen. Principally grown in Yucatan and is used for cordage. Much used by the Mexicans. The fibre is white to pale straw in colour is stiff and short and very liable to rot; very elastic and has a wavy appearance. -
5 Agave Lophantha
A variety of nettle plant from which fibre is obtained and used in Germany, especially for spinning. -
6 Henequen Fibre
A species of sisal. It is very elastic, strong, white leaf fibre, obtained from the agave plant in Yucatan and Mexico. Used for cordage (see Istle Fibre) and Agave Saxi. -
7 Bastard Aloe Fibre

8 Bombay Aloe Fibre
A fibre obtained from the Agave Vivipara growing in the North-west Province of India. The fibre is shipped from Bombay and used for ropes and cordage. -
9 Maguey Fibre
A name often given to the fibres yielded by the Agave Vivipara plant which is a native of India. The fibres are strong and used for making cordage, ropes, and mats. They have also been used for violin strings. The fibre is obtained by retting the leaves and washing and preparing after retting. Also known as Bastard Aloe and Manila Aloe fibre. -
10 Pita Fibre
This is obtained from the leaf of the Agave Americana, chiefly growing in Mexico, Central and South America. Also known as aloe fibre. The plants are known as " Century " plants because they flower once only. Pita is very similar to sisal hemp. It is very strong, glossy and white. The leaves are 8 feet to 10 feet long and about 12-in. wide, and yield about 10 per cent by weight of fibre. -
11 Arimina Fibre
A long, strong, stem fibre, similar to jute, yielded by a species of agave in Brazil; used for ropes. Also grown in Sierra Leone, Madagascar, etc. Its name is Arimina Guanima or Urina Lobata. -
12 Ixtle Fibre
The Mexican term for various fibres of vegetable growth, such as, Henequen, Tampico, Leshuguilla, and the Agave (see Istle fibre) -
13 Keratto Fibre
An inferior fibre obtained from several species of the Agave in the West Indies. -
